Olive Fruit Production

[/title]

Ever since early Islamic times, Tabuk has been famous for its production of olives and olive oil, and so it is no surprise that TADCO is the leading olive oil producer in Saudi Arabia.

TADCO also has the distinction of having the first olive oil pressing plant in Saudi Arabia back in 1983.

Unique High Quality

Today, TADCO’s brands of olive oil (“Shamal” and “Zaituna”) meet or exceed the International Olive Oil Council standard for extra virgin olive oil. In fact, such is the high quality of our olive oil that we are the only olive oil (local or imported) to have the prestigious Saudi Quality mark of excellence, and as a result our consumers are guaranteed a product of excellent quality.

As a trusted Saudi Arabian company we endeavor to produce only the best possible product. Due to the fact that Olive Oil does not contain any cholesterol, it is a very healthy alternative for fat in the diet. Our Zaituna product is packed in a distinctive package which symbolizes quality.

Olive Processing
the yield but increases the quality of the olive oil.

Fruit is picked at optimum ripeness and pressed as soon as possible to ensure best quality olive oil. With our TWO Stage ALFA LAVAL press and decanter (with a capacity of 3 ton an hour) we can extract oil at temperature below 30 Celsius to ensure we get Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

Within hours from harvesting by hand, the olives are crushed, at cold temperature, which ensures the olive oil quality is maintained. After crushing, the greenish yellow oil drips off at the end of the production line and is collected. The gentle handling of the olives and the oil ensures there is a natural balance between aroma and taste. The resulting olive oil has a very sweet and smooth taste. To ensure perfectly hygienic conditions, the olive oil is stored in stainless steel tanks under nitrogen to maintain the quality, aroma and color of the oil throughput the year.

Promoting Healthy Diet in Saudi Population
TADCO plans to actively encourage increased per capita consumption of olive oil in Saudi Arabia, where the average consumption is only 0,4 kg per year. This will be achieved through organizing numerous small seminars and obtaining endorsements from the medical profession.

Research
We constantly do research at TADCO. Specifically regarding the olives we do research in the field of testing various varieties which are best suited for our local conditions, best oil yield and best pickling. Specific irrigation requirements of these varieties are also tested to ensure that only the correct amount of water is given to preserve our water source.

On the processing side we do research on the optimum ripeness of the fruit in order to get the best quality and quantity fruit for pressing oil and pickling.

Regarding marketing we research which varieties the end user prefer. Furthermore we research packing size as well as presentation to make most acceptable for the housewife.

We are also researching the idea to plant an area with a higher density than it was done in the past. This means we will plant 550 trees per hectare and will train it so that we can use a mechanical harvester during the harvest.

New Product Development
Olive pickles are in increasing demand as the health benefits of olives and olive oil are more and more appreciated by Saudi citizens. To this end, we have an ambitious plan to devote a sizeable proportion of our olives to pickling.

The Picual variety represents about 90% of the olive trees planted in the Jaen region of Andalucia , Spain , the largest olive growing area in the world.

The Picual Fruit
Fruit shape is oval and curved with a nipple on the end. Both oil content and yield are high. The fruit ripens mid to late season. During the first years, fruits tend to be larger than normal and they are highly rated for pickling as black olives for the firmness of their flesh.

The Picual Oil
The oil yield of Picual is high, although it is known to be variable in the first years. The oil is of good quality with a very particular character and extraordinarily high stability. Picual oil is often blended with other oils that have low stability.

Picual is highly rated for its early start to bearing and its high productivity. The fruit has low attachment making it suitable for mechanical harvesting. It is tolerant of cold, salinity and excess soil moisture. Picual is a hardy variety and adapts well to different climates and soil conditions. It is sensitive to verticillium wilt and peacock spot.

2. Coratina

Coratina Agronomic Characteristics
Coratina comes into bearing very early and productivity is high and constant. This variety has shown some susceptibility to sooty mould. Coratina is tolerant of cold and in some areas of its native Italy it is planted as a pollinator; however Coratina should be planted with other varieties for cross-pollination.
